Mercer County Park Tennis Center

The county's flagship racquet facility — 28 tennis courts, four pickleball courts, a viewing lounge and a stadium court — and how its ID cards, fees and reservations work.

The Mercer County Park Commission operates the largest public tennis facility in the area inside Mercer County Park in West Windsor, between Trenton and Princeton. It combines an indoor building with six lighted courts and a second-floor viewing lounge, 22 outdoor courts including a premier court with stadium seating, and four dedicated pickleball courts. In 2018 the USTA named it one of 24 winners of its national Facility Awards, which recognize excellence in building or renovating tennis facilities.

Fees (2025 schedule)

The county sells a single annual ID card that covers tennis, pickleball and platform tennis:

Card / feePrice
Mercer County adult resident ID$80
Junior / senior ID$40
Non-resident ID$120
Outdoor court fee, ID holders$0
Court fee, non-ID players (Mercer County Park)$8 / person

The county's page lists these figures for outdoor courts; indoor court time is priced separately, so ask the tennis center about indoor rates and seasonal contracts.

Reservations

  • Court time is booked in 90-minute blocks.
  • ID card holders can reserve up to three days in advance through the county's online system on CourtReserve.
  • Everyone else can reserve one day in advance.
  • Mercer Tennis League matches are played at Mercer County Park unless both teams agree to play at Hopewell.

Tournaments and history

According to the USTA's 2018 award announcement, the center hosted 13 tournaments in 2017 with 1,535 participants. Its long-running events include the James Cryan Memorial tournament — 52 years old at that time — and the Stone Age Open, established in 1997. The facility is also home to the Mercer County Tennis Hall of Fame.

The county's second site: Hopewell Valley Golf Club

The same ID card works at the county's courts at Hopewell Valley Golf Club, 114 Pennington-Hopewell Road in Hopewell: three Har-Tru tennis courts and two platform tennis courts with blended pickleball lines, open 8 a.m. to dusk. Non-ID players pay $10 per person there. From May to September, reservations are taken by phone at (609) 639-9100 ext. 1; from October to April, call the Mercer County Park number instead.

Who the center suits

Because it combines indoor and outdoor courts under one operator, the center works for players who want one place to play year-round. League players will find it the default home for Mercer Tennis League matches. Casual players who only hit a few times a season can skip the ID card and pay the per-person fee, while families with juniors or seniors benefit from the $40 card rate. Pickleball players get dedicated, lighted courts — something the township parks do not advertise — at the cost of reserving ahead.

Tips

  • If you play more than about ten times a year as a Mercer County resident, the $80 card costs less than paying the $8 non-ID fee each time ($80 ÷ $8 = 10 visits).
  • Book early for evenings; the county limits advance booking to three days even for cardholders.
  • For pickleball specifics, see the West Windsor pickleball page.
